Project Manual 

The "Casinha de Livros" is a cultural equipment, built with recyclable material, installed in schools and / or social institutions, with a collection of 500 books of literature for children and young people. In 2018, 5 "Casinhas de Livros" will be set up in 4 states of Brazil to meet a demand of more than 5,000 people.

Our Goal

Promote reading and expand the importance of the book within the symbolic universe of underserved communities and social groups;

Encourage the habit of reading as a form of entertainment, as another leisure option;

Stimulate the programming of play activities, having the book as reference center;

To train competent and independent readers capable of understanding the importance of reading for their intellectual and cognitive development and their economic and social emancipation;

Provide, for needy communities, books of some of the most important and reputed Brazilian publishers, enabling their reading / use via free loan;

Demonstrate the feasibility of the use of recycled material in the construction of objects / equipment of general and daily use;

 

Inter-relate formal education with environmental education, disseminating the concept of sustainability.

Current scenario - Are we going to change this reality?

Reading data in Brazil

A total of 128,020 libraries were to be built in Brazil between 2011 and 2020 in Brazilian schools to comply with Law 12244 of May 2010, which establishes the obligation to have a collection of at least one book per student in each educational institution of the country. For that, it would be necessary to build 39 units per day, according to a survey by the "Todos pela Educação" movement, based on the 2011 School Census.

It is with the purpose of attenuating this reality that the "Little House of Books" proposes to such action, in view of the book's encounter with the reader in a playful environment, conducive to socialization and the stimulus to reading, thus enhancing the impact that the reading can have in the daily life of the institution, with the involvement of the whole school community: students, teachers and technical staff.
